How it works

Splitting the bill after dinner and everyone ate something different? Tablejar does it without a calculator and without arguments. Nobody has to install an app or create an account.

Four steps

  1. Snap the receipt. The app reads the items. If something is off, fix it in a few seconds or type the items in by hand.
  2. Everyone joins with a QR code or a link. Each person enters a name and taps what they had. Shared dishes split themselves.
  3. Tablejar does the maths. You get the result: who pays whom, in the fewest transfers, with an explanation of every amount.
  4. Mark payments as done. When everything adds up, the settlement closes.

Not just for dinner

Frequently asked questions

How do we split the bill when everyone ate something different?

Snap the receipt in Tablejar. The app reads the items, and everyone at the table taps what they had on their phone. Tablejar works out who pays what.

Does everyone need to install an app or create an account?

No. Everyone else joins with a QR code or a link, in the browser, with no install and no account. Just enter your name. You can also add the app to your home screen.

What about shared dishes, like a pizza for the table?

Shared items split themselves between the people who tapped them. You can also take a part, like “3 of 8 slices”, or treat someone to something.

What if the app reads the receipt wrong?

You fix the items on screen in a few seconds, or type them in by hand. Only then do you invite everyone.

Do you pay inside Tablejar?

No. Tablejar shows who owes whom (with the fewest transfers) and where each amount comes from. You pay each other as you normally would, and just mark payments as done in the app.

How much does Tablejar cost?

Basic bill splitting is free. You can support the upkeep of the app if you like.
